Kelvin Energy were engaged by Danish energy company DONG Energy to provide design services for the onshore substation and the onshore cable route and also to provide project management services. The Walney Offshore Wind Farm comprises of two phases with a total of 102 Turbines making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. Kelvin Energy undertook the role of Onshore Consents Management liaising with key stakeholders such as the Lancaster City Council, Environment Agency and all  local land owners. The cable route was to be constructed mainly through the streets of Fleetwood making the interface with the public very important and also making consents a very important aspect of the project. The project also involved some complicated HDDs where we had to interface with Network Rail, the local and national highways department/agency. We had a site presence during the works and provided cost control support for the construction works. Post construction our role included the compilation of as built data and compilation of construction information manuals of the project for handing over to the Operations and Management

DONG Energy are constructing an extension to the Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm which will have a capacity of approximately 260MW. Kelvin Power Consultants have been employed by Dong Energy to provide technical design services for the 11km onshore 220kV export cable from landfall to the onshore substation. The onshore cable route comprises of a 220kV 11km cable route. The route includes several challenging Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) crossings under existing infrastructure for which Kelvin Power Consultants undertook the following: Assessment of ground conditions to establish HDD constraints Scope and management of additional ground investigation Design of the proposed HDD profiles for the 600m landfall HDD and separate 700m onshore HDD Duct pull in force, cable pull in force and structural calculations Liaison with Network Rail and obtaining necessary technical approvals Liaison with Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Water, North Wales Trunk Road Agency and Local Highway Authority. Management of specialist earthing designs and calculations Management and supervision of onsite trial pits to determine service locations Cable route setting out and services clearance in advance of fencing works
Project details
Kelvin Power Consultants were involved in the support for the seller in the disposal of 50% of the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm.  We appointed a project manager to represent Westermost Rough Limited in the property aspects of the sale who worked closely with the M&A and Projects teams on the due diligence requested by the investors. This transaction support role required a tremendous amount of hard work and expertise in all aspects of property due diligence.  Our surveyors and CAD designers also assisted in providing details cable route reports. The strong legal background of our appointed project manager , Manjit Kooner was seen as a real benefit to the project. The investors will each acquire a 25 per cent ownership share in Westermost Rough for a total cash consideration of approximately GBP 240 million
